Many are Invited, but Few Are Chosen… Praise be to God!
Matthew 22:1-14
In our message this week, we will hear a powerful and challenging parable called the Parable of the Wedding Feast, also known as the Parable of the Unwanted Guest. In this scripture, Jesus uses a simple story about a wedding banquet to share beautiful and profound truths about the Kingdom of Heaven.
At the end of this parable, Jesus will speak one of his most quoted phrases, “Many are invited, but few are chosen,” which is sometimes translated as “Many are called, but few are chosen.” We will spend some real time with this little sentence, and we will work to accept how radical it really is, and just how drastically Jesus turns our expectations and understanding upside down about what it means to truly live a life of faith.
